What Happens When Your Cockpit Display Outlives Its Own Parts Supply?

A display doesn’t become a problem only when it fails. It just has to get old enough that the parts to fix it stop being made. Operators still flying with Honeywell ED-800 CRT displays are running into exactly that: aging hardware, shrinking spares, and rising risk every time one of those units goes down on the line.

JetSupport now installs the EFI-650, a certified LCD replacement for the ED-800, as part of its Modifications and Upgrades service.

‍

What the EFI-650 Replaces

‍

The EFI-650 is a drop-in replacement for the Honeywell ED-800. It’s fully interchangeable with the ED-800, whether that’s one unit, one side of the cockpit, or a full cockpit running alongside ED-800 units still in service.

‍

The Math Behind the Upgrade

‍

CRT displays get less reliable the longer they stay in service. The EFI-650 runs more than 25,000 hours mean time between failures, a 50% improvement over CRT, which means fewer disruptions and less AOG risk. It’s also 50% lighter and pulls less power.

Fewer failures also mean fewer spares to hold: operators stocking ED-800 units as backup can start winding that inventory down as EFI-650 units go in.

‍

Built to Grow With the Aircraft

‍

An obsolete display doesn’t just fail more often. It also locks operators out of capability newer cockpits take for granted. The EFI-650 carries growth provisions for ADS-B, graphical weather, SBAS approach, and windshear, so the upgrade path doesn’t stop at the swap itself.

‍

Certified Across the Fleet

‍

The EFI-650 holds AML-STC approval from the FAA, EASA, Transport Canada, and CASA Australia, covering business and regional aircraft that originally flew with ED-800 displays.

JetSupport installs the EFI-650 on Bombardier Challenger CL-600, 601-1A, 601-3A and 601-3R, Cessna Citation III, VI, and VII, Dassault Falcon 900 and 900B, and Dash 8 aircraft.

‍

Fitting Installation Into the Maintenance Process

‍

JetSupport installs the EFI-650 through its Modifications and Upgrades capability, backed by its EASA Part-145, FAA & TCCA approved network at Amsterdam Schiphol, Munich Oberpfaffenhofen, Paris Le Bourget, and Nice Côte d’Azur.

For operators already flying ED-800 displays, the replacement slots into planned maintenance, with JetSupport handling the certification paperwork throughout.
